

The Wheeling Police Department is committed to improving the quality of life in our city by enhancing public safety, reducing fear, and maintaining peace and order. We will work to fulfill the department's mission in a way which will inspire public trust and confidence. We will protect the Constitutional rights of every citizen.
Our Department has a complement of 87 full-time sworn officers,
civilian support staff, and part-time school crossing guards. The
City of Wheeling encompasses approximately 14 square miles, with a
population of 32,000. The Wheeling Police Department is the largest
Law Enforcement agency in the Northern District of
West Virginia.
Our fleet of police cruisers are equipped with the latest technology
including Mobile Data Computers, Digital Video Cameras, Encrypted
Radio Communications and radar. We also utilize motorcycles,
mountain bikes, watercraft, and special purpose vehicles for
specific purposes.
Our department includes two divisions with assignments to four
patrol shifts, a traffic unit, and investigations. In addition to
primary assignments officers have secondary areas of responsibility
and receive specialized training in; S.W.A.T., Hostage Negotiations,
Canine, Evidence Technicians, Polygraph, Marine Patrol, Advanced
Accident Investigation & Reconstruction, Regional Response Team
(RRT), Hazardous Material Technician, Neighborhood Watch Resource
Officers, D.A.R.E., School Prevention Resource Officers and others.
