The Neighborhood Assistance Volunteer program was created in 2010 to assist the Police Department with non law enforcement related duties.
Neighborhood Assistance Volunteers may help disabled motorists, direct traffic, collect lost or found items, give directions to lost motorists, and may issue handicapped parking citations.
N.A.V members are required to be graduates of the Citizen Police Academy. They must be field trained by Police Sergeants or Lieutenanats. N.A.V. members follow the rules and regulations of the Police Department and the City of Wheeling.
The N.A.V. program has already proven extremely successful. The program has helped free up the Patrol division. It has also been well received by the community.
