The patrol division is the backbone of the Wheeling Police Department. It is the most visible to the citizens of Wheeling who we are sworn to Protect.

The Patrol division consists of four shifts, Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, and Delta. There are also three K-9 Units. Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie shifts work eight hour shifts on a four week rotating basis. Delta Shift is a steady night turn shift.

As of January of 2010 the patrol cars utilize a black and white color scheme. The patrol force uses Dodge Chargers, Ford Interceptors, and Ford Crown Victoria police cruisers. The police cruisers are equipped with mobile data terminals, GPS, and radar. Supervisors utilize fully marked Ford Explorers and Dodge Durangos.

The City of Wheeling is divided into three geographical districts that are patrolled 24 hours a day.  The districts are overseen by District Commanders, Lt. Anderson, Lt. Marriner, and Lt. Redford.
